Description
Volkswagen, one of the most influential car makers in the world, started out with it's Beetle or in German: Käfer in the 1930s. After World War II, Volkswagen began building models, most based off the beetle's simple platform. The T2 Kombi van and T2 Truck , Type 3 Wagon and Type 3 Fastback and in the mid 1950s, the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia 2+2 fastback. The Karmann model Hot Wheels replicates is the Type 14, the Original Karmann Ghia.
This die-cast model is a highly customized version of the real car. It features an air scoop and a large rear wing. The air scoop section of the roof and wing is removable, revealing the engine. A roll bar is added for the safety of the driver. On the underside of the model, the gearbox and front suspension are seen. Due to the removable part (making this model consist of five parts instead of four), it has only been released once in the basic line.
