A die-cast tool or " tool & die" is a set of molds used in the production of both die-cast and plastic parts from raw materials.

The tools are used to create each individual part from raw materials like ZAMAC, K-Resin, Poly-Propylene, ABS and occasionally other materials in production of Hot Wheels cars.

Each tool or mold is comprised of at least 2 parts, generally a female upper and male lower half. More complicated tooling like that used for most diecast car bodies requires up to 6 slides or individual parts to a mold or set of tools. The reason for this is to achieve detail and curvature that would be undercut in the mold and trap the finished part rather than easily releasing it so a second part could be made.
