Description[]

To celebrate Hot Wheels's 40th anniversary, Mattel did something it had never done before; asking outside designers from the automotive industry to come up with designs to be celebrated as part of its 40th anniversary. The Designers Challenge cars debuted at SEMA in 2007 as 1/4 scale models. One of designs included the line-up is the HW40. This was the only design for the Hot Wheels Team that made the final group. Next to that, it was featured in Hot Wheels: Track Attack. The casting was changed in 2014, the place of the front rivet post is moved to the body, and the hood is now shorter, with the grille being part of the interior. There's a chance this beast has over 1000 horsepower and can go from zero to 60 in less than one second.

From the back of the 2008 card:	The HW40 was designed by Jun Imai. As a child, Imai never imagined he would end up working alongside Larry Wood, who designed Imai's very first Hot Wheels car, the Dixie Challenger. In designing the HW40, Imai made it fit for drag, drift, road course, or trips to the toy store.
