Team Hot Wheels: Build the Epic Race! is a full-length animated video released by Mattel & Universal on October 5, 2015 exclusively to Netflix and is the third episode of the series that began with Team Hot Wheels: The Origin of Awesome! When the Epic Race is held to determine who will be the Supreme Overlord of Hot Wheels City, Captain Grease Beard and his Road Pirates join in the fray. Team Hot Wheels take action to stop them and have to overcome some major setbacks. They learn how loyalty and friendship can help them work as a team, as well as what defines a team.

Hot Wheels vs Road Pirate[]
Grog was chasing Brandon, and as Grog was catching up, suddenly Gage hit him. Grog tried to smash him with his hammer, but Gage quickly dodged it. Grog got mad, turned around, and burped on him. Gage asked him if he ever washed his mouth. Rhett got mad and hit Grog's vehicle. Grog lost control, and Longshank chased after Rhett. Gage was beside Longshank and then hit Rhett with his harpoon. Rhett got stuck and could not escape, so Brandon stepped in and activated a spiral saw to cut the harpoon rope, releasing Rhett. Then Longshank got tied up. Meanwhile, Gage was speed driving, still with a bad smell, about to barf, and Tankard was chasing him, shooting squid from his gun. He dodged them and drove away with the others, but Tankard chased them.
Rhett was battling Tankard, who was talking trash to Rhett. They pushed each other, but Tankard was stronger. However, Rhett hit him with all his strength, and Tankard struggled. Then Rhett hit him hard, and Tankard chased him. Brandon chased Longshank, who grabbed a sword and was about to stab his car. However, he activated his arms to defend against the sword and then activated a katana sword. They had a sword fight, but they kept hitting each other's swords. Then Longshank blasted a three-bladed harpoon, but Brandon blocked it by activating a force field. Gage was activating his hyper speed and made a whirlpool to make the pirates dizzy.

The team starts out with the same 4 cars they drove in Team Hot Wheels: The Origin of Awesome!, but they are destroyed by the Road Pirates towards the end of the race. The team creates 4 new cars, which correspond to castings released as part of the 2015 basic car release. Monkey, the newest member of Team Hot Wheels, drives a miniature version of Baja Truck for most of the video, but trades it for Tarmac Attack in the end. Captain Grease Beard's main vehicle Grease Rod was a 2015 New Model release and he appears on the card for both the 2015 & 2016 basic car releases. Rev Rod also briefly appears in this video.
