Jun Imai is a Japanese-American former Hot Wheels designer who worked at Mattel from 2004 to 2018. Although his designs include classic American muscle cars and fantasy cars, he is most known for his Japanese cars. He has made replicas of his own 1:1 vehicles; the '71 Datsun Bluebird 510 Wagon, the Nissan Fairlady Z and the Datsun 620.
He left Mattel in 2018 to work as a director of products at Roborace; he subsequently left Roborace in October 2020 and is currently working on a special series of cars with Hong Kong-based die-cast car company TrueScale Miniatures for their Mini GT line of high-detail 1:64 model automobiles. He worked as a Special Projects Manager for American electric car startup Canoo after leaving Roborace; he is currently the creative director of Kaido House, a company he founded selling automotive enthusiast merchandise; despite this he is still very active within the diecast community, making custom Hot Wheels cars which he sells and appearing at conventions. His Kaido House brand also appears on various Hot Wheels cars and he maintains a good relationship with his ex-colleagues.
