The City Police car is another vehicle that started life as a Corgi casting. When Mattel bought some of their molds in the mid-1990's, they rereleased certain vehicles under the Hot Wheels brand with minor changes such as new bases and tampo designs. This car is a Police modification of the 4-door Buick Regal from the mid 1970s. During it's life under Corgi, this casting was known as 'Buick Regal' on the base, as corgi also made a civilian variation at the same time and a Taxi variation with a clear plastic taxi light on the roof. Originally, this casting was released in 1977 as 'Kojack Buick' on the packaging. Another variation from later on for the Television series 'Simon and Simon' the packaging label was 'American Police Car', but Officially, this casting was always labelled on the base as 'Buick Regal'.
