Hot Wheels promotions can be divided into 3 major categories, Mail-in, Advertising, and Free.

Mail-in The mail-in offers generally require you to pay the shipping and handeling cost and may also include sending in UPCs or a coupon.

Advertising These are vehicles that have the sponsors name on them or on the card. Several of the auto parts stores have had special edition Hot Wheels.

Free The free category would include Hot Wheels that came inside special maker packages, such as cereal, fruit snacks and McDonalds' Happy Meals. They also include cars that were handed out a special events.
