The sixth generation Ford Mustang, also known as the "Mustang II", is the current iteration of the Mustang pony car manufactured by Ford. The pony is available as a coupe model or as a convertible model. The sixth generation was presented at private Ford events on December 5, 2013 and commenced series production at the Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant on July 14, 2014. In departure from prior Mustang models, the sixth generation Mustang includes fully independent rear suspension on all models, as well as an optional 2.3L EcoBoost turbocharged and direct injected four cylinder engine. The new Mustang was introduced as a 2015 model year vehicle, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the Ford Mustang, which was revealed as a 1965 model year vehicle on April 17, 1964.
Three engines are available for the 2015 Ford Mustang GT Convertible: a standard aluminum 3.7 L "Cyclone" V6 with 300 hp (224 kW) with 379 N·m (280 lb·ft) of torque @ 4,000 rpm, an optional 2.3 L EcoBoost turbocharged with direct injected I4 with 310 hp (231 kW) with 434 N·m (320 lb·ft) of torque @ 3,000 rpm, or a 5.0 L "Coyote" V8 with 435 hp (324 kW) and 542 N·m (400 lb·ft) @ 4,250 rpm. The 2.3 L EcoBoost engine is new to the Mustang. This four-cylinder includes improvements over earlier versions.
